This Bible Principle Mark 1:35 Transformed My Mornings

A few years back, my mornings felt like a battle before the day even began. I’d wake up feeling rushed, unmotivated, and drained, as if I were constantly playing catch-up with time. No matter how much I planned or tried to establish a routine, my mornings always felt chaotic.
I was already a Christian attending church, but my prayer life was not intentional. Some mornings, I would just do the Christian ritual where I rushed through praying, while other mornings, I did not even pray. So you could say that I was not a serious believer, and I had not quite developed a personal relationship with God. Honestly, I would say I was perhaps lukewarm in my Christian walk.
Many times would wake up and immediately grab my phone—scrolling through notifications, checking messages, and allowing the noise of the world to dictate my mindset before I even got out of bed. It felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions, and before I knew it, my morning and time was running away. I wasn’t showing up as my best self, and deep down, I knew something needed to change.
Then, one day, everything shifted. I stumbled upon a simple yet powerful biblical principle—one I had read countless times before but had never truly applied with dedication. It was as if a light was shining directly on it, illuminating a truth that had been there all along. This principle wasn’t just a good idea; it was a command that I should have been practicing daily.
This principle was something Jesus practiced. It’s something the Proverbs talk about. And when I finally applied it… everything changed.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, distracted, or like you’re constantly playing catch-up… this is for you.
1. The Shift That Changed My Mornings
“So, what’s the principle?“
It’s found in:
Mark 1:35 – And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Before anything—before people, responsibilities, demands, or distractions—Jesus started His day with the Father. He set the tone for everything that followed by retreating to a quiet place in intentional communion with God. And that was the key I was missing.
I realized I wasn’t giving God my first moments. I was giving Him my leftovers—after I had already started the day. And let’s be honest: most of us do the same. We wake up, reach for our phones, and let the world flood our minds before we’ve even whispered, “Good morning, Lord.
But what would happen if we flipped the script? What if, instead of rushing into the day feeling behind, we started with peace, presence, and purpose?
But here’s what I did differently… and here’s what happened.
2. The Practical Change I Made
Instead of waking up and drowning in distractions, I made one simple but powerful shift: I started giving God my first 10 minutes.
No phone. No checking notifications or messages. Nothing of that sort
No distractions. Just me, my Bible, and a moment to say, ‘Lord, today is Yours.
Some mornings, I’d read a single verse or chapter and meditate on it. Other mornings, I’d just sit in silence, and let God’s presence fill my heart before the world had a chance to pull me away. As well as sometimes, I’d reflect on the things on the things God has done for me and helped me get through.
It wasn’t about following a rigid routine—it was about creating space for God before anything else. And let me tell you, the difference was undeniable.
3. The Results Were Immediate
Let me tell you—the difference was night and day.
I started noticing a change. My mornings felt lighter, calmer, and more intentional.
Instead of waking up feeling rushed and reactive, I started feeling more grounded and centered. My mind wasn’t cluttered with stress before the day even began. I had a sense of peace that carried me through my tasks, conversations, and responsibilities.
And the craziest part? The more I sought Him first through prayer and meditating of scripture, the more everything else seemed to fall into place. My productivity increased. My focus sharpened. I was showing up as a more present, patient, and peaceful version of myself.
Then I finally understood the power of Matthew 6:33:
“Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.”
When we put God first, He takes care of the rest.
I finally understood that when I give God my first, He takes care of the rest.
4. Try This Tomorrow Morning
So, here’s my challenge to you. Tomorrow morning, before you do anything—before social media, before emails, before distractions—give God your first 10 minutes.”
It doesn’t have to be complicated. Open your Bible, read a single verse, whisper a prayer, or simply sit in silence, allowing His presence to settle your heart before the world starts pulling at you.
I promise you, you’ll feel the shift.
It doesn’t have to be complicated and watch what happens.
You’ll feel the shift.
Final Thoughts
I know how easy it is to get caught up in the rush of life, always feeling like there’s not enough time, always feeling like you’re behind. But what if the answer isn’t in doing more, but in surrendering more? What if the peace you’ve been searching for isn’t found in productivity hacks or morning routines, but in simply giving God your first moments?
The truth is, when we start our day with Him, we set the foundation for everything else. We align ourselves with His will, His wisdom, and His strength. And that changes everything.
So, I encourage you—start small. Just 10 minutes. And watch how God begins to move in your life. Watch how your mind clears, how your spirit strengthens, and how you start navigating life with a newfound sense of peace and purpose.
